Freshly mown
Sunday morning, and the living will be easy...as soon as the grass is trimmed back to something resembling the length at which people no longer point and shake their heads as they walk past.
It's not that I mind mowing...I just don't like to mow when it is above 90 degrees. Unfortunately, we have seen lots of that kind of weather lately, plus some late-afternoon showers which also discourage mowing, which I sometimes do after work. There may be motivational and morale issues among the mowers, themselves, as well (all of those would be me, now referred to in the plural for some reason), or so the rumors are conveying and management has gotten wind of them.
Time to address all of those hindrances!
This morning, I am looking forward to seeing the crisp, clean look of the newly mown lawn which meanders around the various garden areas in the yard. Julia has tended those gradually extended areas of beauty now for nine years, and the results are a joy to behold.
This morning, I'll be mowing before it gets too warm.
This morning, once I have finished mowing, I'll sit on the patio with the light breeze making it very comfortable as I read the Sunday paper (always one of my favorite pastimes). There could be coffee involved, as well.
Visualizing all of the benefits of having mowed, I am excited now to get started! Now, if the sun would just come up...
[addendum: the sun is riz, the grass is still long, and the mower you see above is not the actual mowing device used by aforementioned groundskeeping staff]

Welcome, Rick...a nice picture, and a great everyday sacred---the chores we do can contribute to an appreciation of life, and I haven't thought of them in this way lately. Thank you, Olivia
You're reminding me of the pathetic job I did (not) keeping the grass mowed during my brief period of home ownership. I actually got a citation from the city when a neighbour complained. What, is twice each summer not often enough?
Olivia--you definitely see what I was seeing: life's chores are no less part of us than the stuff we may enjoy more. Thanks for visiting!
Kelly--my citations are from our little red girl dachshund who has a real issue with doing her duties if the grass is longer than 3 inches. If I'm not out there about once every five days, she will simply go in the house. Good motivation, that's for sure! Thanks for stopping by!
We are lucky, my 14yr old son likes to earn pocket money, so the mowing always gets done. I do love the smell of freshly cut grass warmed by the summer sun, barefeet walking on the softness. Definitely one of my sacred things!
Mowing will show up on my blog soon too :)
