Come home, my love

Goodness gracious, I miss my wife. She will not be home until next year.

Okay...her scheduled arrival here in Denver is now just a bit more than a week away, but it is still next year!

We have been together, almost as two parts of a single entity, for more than 12 years. While we have had brief separations lasting as long as a week or so, we have never been apart as long as we have been this time.

My longing is deep and strong. My tears are real, my desire for her lovely face in my sight almost unbearable.

And, I know I can make it another eight days. It's not like there are options at this point, and my specialty has always been to get through whatever was between me and where I was supposed to be. I'm supposed to be hugging my Julia at the airport.

It will be a really, really, really long time before I accept my wife going away for as long as three weeks again. It will be a long time before I let go of her when I finally get to hug her at the airport. She will laugh, and I'll finally let go with a sheepish grin on my face.

Life is meant to cradle in its gentle arms love such as this, and I know exactly how lucky I am. There is nothing I can wish for you, you who stop by to see what I had to say today, which would be greater or richer or more rewarding than to know this kind of love. Open your heart to it.

Eight more days.

I love hearing about people who really, deeply miss their mates when apart. In this world of frequent divorce and other negative relationship issues, you and your love are inspirations. Thank you for posting this.

Happy New Year, Rick.

This is so sweet Rick. You are both so blessed with each other. I think that sometimes brief separations like this are good just so that you can be reminded how important the other person is to you in ways that you forget when they are always around. Your love for each other is inspirational! By the time you read this, there will only be 7 days until Julia is back home, xo, O

Happy New Year, Rick. It inspires and encourages me to know there are still marriages out there like yours.

Rick, I just saw your e-mail to me and wanted to stop by and say thank you for your thoughts and kindness. I am well. You and Julia take good care of each other.
